Rome
Date: Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006

Happy Christmas everyone! I'll write about it later. We were in Rome for a few days prior to Christmas. It was excellent!! I'd recommend everyone to go there. There is just soooo much history there, it's amazing.

It's funny how much we loved the short holiday even with all the problems we encountered:
1. Rented a parking space at Heathrow but took us ages to find it!! Argh, that was stressful.
2. Delay at Heathrow due to fog. Lucikly, we were only delayed by a hour but the check-in was chaos!!
3. Almost didn't find the hotel, we walked for over an hour just to look for it.
4. We had to move to a different room because the whole of the floor smelled of sewage!! This happened really late at night, and I pity those who were fast asleep as when they woke up, surely all their belongings would smell bad?? Urgh.
5. Our camera ran out of power on the first day and we realised that we couldn't charge it because we didn't have a european adapter, argh!! Luckily, Hubby managed to find one, after an hour of searching, around the time shops were closing for the day. He found one at the most random shop but hurray for saving the holiday baby! I *can't* go on holiday without a camera, hehe.
6. Delay at the airport, this time in Rome, on our way home. But not too long.

Now, the good stuff that happened :-D We walked EVERYWHERE. My ankles are still a bit sore from it. We went to the Vatican (climbed up to the top of the main church!! and sent postcards from there since it's a country on its own), the Colesseum and ancient part of Rome (Hubby's favourite), a few piazzas, the Pantheon (my favourite place, it's 2000 years old!!), the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps (a bit dissapointing as smelled of sewage but we were told it looks much prettier in the spring when it's adorned with flowers and plants), and more but I can't remember their names :-(

We went on the tourbus for a day as we've always thought it's a better (but pricier) way to see a city in a short time. I like that you can sit in there and if you see something pretty, you can hop off and visit the place. You can't do that on the underground tube and you wouldn't necessarily know where the public buses are heading to.

Hubby loved that Fiats are everywhere there and next time we go there he wants to hire a moped! I would dread it as I don't think they drive safely in Rome lol.

We managed to have Italian food: risotto, pizza, pasta, and gelato. I loved their spaghetti, so simple yet so yummy. Hubby loved their gelato. But food is not cheap, especially if you're a tourist. I'm pretty sure they mark up the prices for us. A can of coke cost three Euros (£1.50)!! But it's not a big problem if you're only there for a short time.

The main thing that made my holiday was that Hubby loved it :-D I had been dreading to go there as Italy was one of the countries he would least like to visit. But now he wants to go back again!
